Criminal Records

What are Criminal Records?

Every court and police station in the country maintains a database of criminal records. Those records include detailed information about the people who committed those crimes and their arrests and convictions. You may perform some checks of your own that require you to look at the different types of records available on the web.

Driving Records

Some criminal records include crimes committed while driving. A good example is a driving under the influence conviction. This occurs when someone operates a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) that is above the legal limit in the state. Most states charge those under the age of 21 with a DUI if they have any alcohol in their systems. Other crimes that relate to the individual’s driving record can include reckless driving and a hit and run.

Violent Crimes

Violent crimes are among the most severe of all crimes. They include assault such as someone who hits and then robs another person and someone who commits domestic violence against a spouse. One of the more common types of criminal records that you can view online include sex crimes. Most states classify these men and women as a type one, two or three sex offender. It depends on the severity of the act as well as the age of the victim and any extenuating circumstances. A sex offender database lets you search for criminals based on name or location. You can enter your address and view all men and women convicted of sex crimes who live in your neighborhood.

Misdemeanor vs. Felony

There is a big difference between a misdemeanor crime and a felony. A misdemeanor crime is one that is minor and does not involve violence against another person. Most forms of petty crimes fall under the misdemeanor category, including trespassing, possession of marijuana and vandalism. Felony crimes are much more serious and can include rape, murder and assault. When you find that someone has a criminal past, you can look at whether the court convicted that individual of misdemeanor or felony charges.

Online Criminal Records

If you know where a person lived, you can visit the court website for that city and search the individual’s name to view all the available criminal records. The tricky part comes when that person lived in multiple places over the years. That is when public record sites come in handy. These sites act as an aggregate database that lets you view all records after you search for a single name. The next time you need to do a background check and want to find criminal records, use one of these sites.
