Mississippi Inmate Search Statistics
Total number of incarcerated in Mississippi
No. of inmates for every 100,000 adult residents in Mississippi
No. of inmates for every 100,000 total residents in Mississippi
Mississippi became a state in 1817. As it was the biggest cotton producing state in the entire Union at the time, the majority of the state’s population – 55% – were slaves. It was one of the first seven Confederate states and fought heavily in the Civil War. Black people remain a large percentage of the total population, which has led to many civil rights struggles. Medgar Evers was assassinated in Mississippi, and it is where the Freedom Summer murders of activists occurred. It ranks low in levels of education and extremely high in levels of poverty. It remains a strong Republican stronghold in local, state, and federal elections.
Step 1: To get started, go to the Mississippi inmate search page. You’ll be asked if you want to search by inmate number or by name. Name is the default setting.
Step 2: Once you type in the name, you will be brought to a page that lists the inmates who match your search, including phonetic matches, meaning that the name sounds like the one you entered to start your search. For each offender, you will see their ID number, their location, the length of the term they’re currently serving, and the nature of the crime.
Step 3: Click on the ID number of the inmate to be taken to their profile page. You will now see more information, including a mugshot, so you can be sure that you have found the one that you are looking for. You’ll also find a physical description, how many sentences they are serving, their location, and the unit they live in at that facility.
You can also search through the Mississippi list of sex offenders. When you click on that link, you will get a long disclaimer that essentially states you cannot use the information to harass or intimidate people.
You will then be brought to a page with a code you have to read and enter. At that point, you can search for the sex offender by first and last name. A geographical search is not possible. From there, you’ll see a full list of your results, with mugshots, as well as a map of their locations.
By clicking on an offender’s name, you will be able to read their full profile, which includes aliases, physical description, and the nature and criminal code of their offense(s).
Mississippi’s Most Wanted list includes each person’s mugshot and the crime they committed. You can download their info as a PDF for viewing or printing.
Mississippi also provides the public with a list of death row inmates. You can click on this link and see listed everyone in the state who is sitting on death row; by clicking on a specific name you will be able to download a PDF that includes all relevant information and a mugshot.
